Irish Beach Reappears

Irish Beach Reappears

November 01, 2017

There's a not so new beach for tourists to visit in Ireland. On the west coast, on County May's Archill Island, the sands on Dooagh seemingly vanished back in 1984. What residents were left with were rocks that didn't make it very easy to enjoy the beach. Recently 300 meters of sand were brought back on shore over the course of just a few days.

Mother Nature Is The Cause Of The Beach Reappearing

The cause of the sands originally disappearing was from storms that took place 33 years ago. Due to strong winds that lasted a little over a week, the surface of the water was blown back and the sand was brought up according to residents. This phenomenon caused the beach to reappear after over 3 decades.

A Revival Of The Entire Area

This rebirthed beach of sorts brings about a sense of renewal for the area. With a population of only around 3,000, the main source of the economy to the area is tourists. It's a beautiful location with cliffs and bogland. It is hoped that many more tourists will flock here in order to see this not so new beach. In the past, the area has seen anywhere from around 150,000 to 180,000 tourists yearly. This new beach could be just what is needed to attract even more visitors to the area and boost the local economy.
