Before the year comes to a close, wanted to share the latest developments regarding Dromoland Castle in Ireland.

Dromoland, the iconic castle with 400+ years of history, is without a doubt one of the most emblematic and famous places to stay in Ireland. I recently met with Mark Nolan, the Managing Director for Dromoland Castle. Here are notes from our conversation:

• Starting in March 2015, Dromoland will start renovating the sleeping rooms, 8 rooms at a time. The renovation will include new bathrooms, new wiring, and a fresh decor, while keeping the spirit of the historic castle. The plan is to renovate 40 of the 98 rooms in 2015, and then do the remaining rooms in 2016. the hotel plans to have a buffer zone between the rooms being renovated and the rest of the castle, to ensure guests staying on property are not disturbed. Because of the way the castle is laid out, guests on property will not be aware that there is a renovation going on. 
• Public areas at Dromoland have already been renovated in 2014. 
• Dromoland is only 15 minutes from Shannon airport (SNN), served from the US by Aer Lingus, Delta, and United. Dromoland offers its guests complimentary round trip airport transfers, a great value.
• The property is a self-contained resort on a vast estate, and offers a spa, pool, tennis, falconry, health club, and of course - a world-class golf course. 
• Dromoland offers 3 restaurants to choose from, including the Golf Club House, a Gastropub, and the property's main restaurant.
